THE RESEARCH BEHIND PVA POLYMER PERFORMANCE
DUST HOLD PRO is a high-solids polyvinyl acetate (PVA) polymer formulation engineered for dust control and surface stabilization. The U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) and other Department of Defense organizations have conducted extensive laboratory and field research evaluating PVA-based polymer technologies for dust suppression, soil stabilization, roads, helipads, airfields, and other demanding military applications.
This body of research provides established technical and performance benchmarks relevant to evaluating DUST HOLD PRO. The military studies presented here were conducted on PVA polymer technologies and should not be interpreted as testing, certification, or endorsement of DUST HOLD PRO by ERDC, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, or the Department of Defense.

U.S. MILITARY PVA POLYMER RESEARCH
ERDC/GSL TR-06-2 — EVALUATION OF CHEMICAL DUST PALLIATIVES FOR HELIPADS
This U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center study evaluated chemical dust-control technologies under the demanding conditions created by helicopter rotor wash. The research provides an important military performance benchmark for polymer-based dust palliatives used where high-velocity air movement can dislodge untreated soil and create severe dust conditions.
ERDC/GSL TR-05-23 — DUST ABATEMENT METHODS FOR LINES-OF-COMMUNICATION AND BASE CAMPS IN TEMPERATE CLIMATES
Published by ERDC's Geotechnical and Structures Laboratory in October 2005, this research examined dust-abatement methods for military roads and base-camp environments and was prepared for U.S. Marine Corps Systems Command.
DUST ABATEMENT HANDBOOK — STANDARD PRACTICES FOR MITIGATING DUST ON HELIPADS, ROADS, AIRFIELDS, AND BASE CAMPS
This U.S. Marine Corps Systems Command handbook consolidates practical dust-abatement guidance for military operating environments, including roads, helipads, airfields, and base camps. It provides field-oriented guidance for selecting and applying dust-control treatments under demanding operational conditions.
UFC 3-260-17 — STANDARD PRACTICE FOR DUST CONTROL ON ROADS, AIRFIELDS, BASE CAMPS, AND ADJACENT AREAS
This Unified Facilities Criteria document establishes Department of Defense guidance for dust control on roads, airfields, base camps, and adjacent areas. It provides a broader engineering framework for evaluating dust-control requirements, treatment alternatives, application considerations, and performance.
PWTB 200-1-133 — ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS FOR SELECTING COST-EFFECTIVE DUST CONTROL TECHNOLOGIES
This U.S. Army Public Works Technical Bulletin addresses the selection of dust-control technologies with consideration for performance, cost, application requirements, and environmental factors. It complements the ERDC performance research by placing dust-control treatment within a broader operational and environmental decision-making framework.
INDEPENDENT RESEARCH RELEVANT TO DUST HOLD PRO
In addition to the military research on PVA polymer technologies, independent university research provides useful evidence concerning the effects of road dust and the performance of DUST HOLD PRO under controlled testing conditions.
UNIVERSITY OF NORTH DAKOTA — IMPACTS OF ROAD DUST ON AGRICULTURE
University of North Dakota research examined the effects of dust generated by unpaved roads on nearby agricultural areas. The study documented measurable impacts on crops near heavily traveled unpaved roads, demonstrating that road dust can be more than a nuisance—it can affect agricultural productivity and surrounding land uses.
NORTH DAKOTA STATE UNIVERSITY — DUST HOLD PRO GREENHOUSE STUDY
North Dakota State University conducted controlled greenhouse testing to evaluate whether DUST HOLD PRO affected seed germination and early plant growth. Five crop species were evaluated using DUST HOLD PRO treatments at 2.5%, 5%, and 10% concentrations. Over the 28-day test period, the study found no adverse effect on seed germination or early plant biomass at the concentrations tested.
