Forestry/Timber

Moving timber creates dust in the work area
Capturing the best timber prices is only possible when producers have full time access to the woodlands they are harvesting.

Wet, muddy, unpaved roads that won't support loaded tractor/trailer rigs help drive lumber prices to their seasonal heights. Dry your wet access roads quickly using our
Drain & Dry Process.

L&Q's suggested combination of light equipment and products, operators can take inaccessible water-logged, roads and make them accessible year round. Building cost-effective, biodegradable, and environmentally friendly access roads into forests has proved difficult until now.

Using TerraZyme and L&Q's ROAD-HARD gives producers a fast and easy process to create hardened soil roads that can be temporary or long-lasting, whichever you like. L&Q's products cause no dangerous run-off or environmental damage.
A washed-out haul road
Mud and Potholes: Treating haul roads with ROAD-HARD before winter sets in will minimize mud, potholes, and weather related problems during timber harvest.
A collapsed road with an unstable soil base
Gravel Roads: Treating gravel roads with ROAD-HARD preserves the road's the soil base and holds gravel in place. ROAD-HARD is easy to apply and it makes for faster travel on safer roads.
A heavily eroded haul road
Erosion Control: Erosion on haul roads is dangerous and slows operations to a crawl. ROAD-HARD's polymer resists water and helps prevent erosion.

Applications:

1. Short-term Access Roads:
  • Build temporary access roads that biodegrade after your job is completed, leaving no environmental footprint.  Using the DuroLite Process with ROAD-HARD, timber producers can create a suitable road for their vehicles by treating the soil 4" deep.

Field tests using a soil penetrometer show compression on sandy loam soil to be greater than 500 psi for a period of 1 year and between 200-500 psi after 2 years. Tests further show that the soil's body remains hardened and water resistant  for 2.5 years, so the road can last throughout the rainy season. If the roadbed has to be removed at any time, simply disk or rip the road bed to expose the treated and compacted soil, and expose the loosened soil body to water. It will soon revert back to its original state, biodegrading and leaving the area with no environmental footprint.

2. Dust Control:
  • Reduce the chance of truck accidents on dusty access roads and sawmill sites during the summer. Suppress dust for 90 days and longer with a surface application of ROAD-HARD Dust Control. Impaired vision can be deadly when it causes accidents to happen with heavy loads. Dust is a nuisance and a health hazard too. A light 1/4" surface application is cost effective and improves work flow dramatically.

3. Build longer-lasting access roads that can withstand prolonged heavy use.
  • L&Q's ROAD-HARD can be applied using L&Q's U.S. Patented DuroEarth Process or applied by itself at a depth of 6" and deeper, depending on traffic use, speed, and weight. Surface maintenance is performed every other year - generally by scarifying and re-applying the top 2". Potholes are easily repaired by filling them with ROAD-HARD treated soil and compacting.
