1. Preparing the Soil Bed
Till the soil to the desired depth (2", 4", 6" or 5, 10, or 15 cm), and pulverize the soil. Hard surfaces may require disking before the tiller is used.
2. Shaping and Crowing the Road
Use a road grader or a front-end blade, to crown or slope the road to ensure water run-off from the road's surface. Make sure that there is adequate drainage room on the sides of the road.
3. Applying ROAD-HARD (Bulk Dry Mix)
Apply ROAD-HARD (Dry Mix) to the tilled surface using a drop spreader. Application rate should be made at 2% of the weight of the soil, and this may require several passes. Adjustments to speed and amount of ROAD-HARD being released should be made to ensure uniform distribution.
4. Tilling ROAD-HARD into the soil
Using a tined implement or tiller, mix the soil again to ensure that the ROAD-HARD polymer is uniformly distributed throughout the body of the soil.
5. Mixing ROAD-HARD Additive A (Dry crystalline chemical and water)
- Calculate the water required by measuring the area and multiplying it by 1.5 to 2 quarts per square yard for every 2 inches (5cm) of depth that will be treated.
- Using a water truck of trailer with a spray bar, fill the tank with the required amount of water.
- Mix ROAD-HARD Additive into the water at a rate of 12 oz dry weight to every 250 gallons (370 grams/1,000 liters) of water. [0.037% by weight of water].
- Thoroughly agitate the water using the water pump to circulate solution for a period of 10 minutes prior to use.
6. Applying ROAD-HARD Additive
Apply the mix-water solution at the calculated rate.
Application criteria for applying Additive A:
Application criteria for applying Additive A:
- #10 irrigation spray nozzles on the spray bar
- 25-30 psi (1.7-2.1 bar) with a 2"(5cm) circulation pump
- Maintain a 3 mile per hour speed during application
7. Tilling ROAD-HARD into the Wetted soil - Repeat Step 4
Using the TR3 or a tiller mix the soil again to ensure that the newly-treated ROAD-HARD mixture (with the Additive) is uniformly distributed throughout the soil.
8. Compacting the Soil
Compact the soil using a roller compactor. A 6-8 ton, vibratory compactor is preferred; however, lighter machinery can also do a fine job with a few more passes. Compact the soil surface multiple times until it is smooth.
9. Curing
Allow the body of soil to dry for 2 hours before allowing passenger vehicles on surface. Wait until surface is completely dry before allowing large commercial vehicles and trucks on surface. The road will continue to cure and harden for several weeks. Many soils will soon exceed 500 psi in compaction tests.
